Several images of the ceremony itself are included, as well as group photos of the children involved and an order of service pamphlet for the festival of Shavuot and Kabbalat Mitzvah from June 1987....

Part of the Progressive Jewish Congregation’s contribution, the Sandak-Lewin collection comprises of images and news articles regarding Temple Israel in the Western Cape. Images of the rabbis, the council and various visitors are included, as well as several newspaper articles concerning Temple Israel events and extracts from the Temple Israel Newsletter, spanning the years from 1995 to 1998. Special to the collection is the letter written to Harold Sandak-Lewis in 1994, sent by Princeton Lymon (United States of America ambassador at the time)....

Donated by Rabbi Greg Alexander, the Cape Jewish Progression Congregation collection contains material such as letters, photographs and newspaper clippings concerning well-known members of the community. There are also several certificates issued in the early 1900s. A ‘Royal Antediluvian’ Order of Buffaloes certificate issued in 1910 is included, inducting one Mr J Kossick to the “ancient and honourable order in the D’Israeli lodge’.  A large, illuminated Hebrew Order of David certificate is also present, certifying A P Bender Esq. as a brother in March of 1923. The certificate is unfortunately rather damaged, ruining the illustrations on the left side. About Temple Israel…  ...
