Edna was born in 1923 in Johannesburg and went to Barnato Park school. She received a BA from the University of the Witwatersrand in Psychology and Music and also attended Oxford University where she received a diploma in Public Administration. Edna married Anthony Heller in 1955 whilst living in Israel from 1945 where she worked with refugees in the Sinai Desert. Once married to Anthony, a cameraman for the BBC, they moved to London. Here, she worked at the Tavistock Clinic under Melanie Klein. They had four children, twins Julia and Rowan born in 1956; Serena in 1958 and Adam in 1961. Edna died in 1999 after having again lived in Israel in the 1960’s where Tony joined the civil defence during the war. Their four children and grandchildren live in London.
