Anne Horowitz was born in Kupiskis (in Yiddish, Kupishok) in 1926. Her mother’s family was from Shavel, and she lost her mother during the Holocaust, after she had initially employed as a dressmaker and kept to make uniforms for the army.
Anne immigrated down to Cape Town on one of the first ships from Lithuania, and worked as an investment banker. Relatives Sonia and Haim got married after the Holocaust. The collection contains several family portraits taken in the late 1920s, just before their father left for South Africa, and one image of children on the boat down to Cape Town.
