Marseilles (Free State)

Marseilles is a village in the Free State, close to Ladybrand.

The small number of Jews who lived here associated themselves with the Ladybrand Hebrew Congregation and attended services there.

The Glass family owned a general store in the village.

In 1975 there was an unconfirmed report that the few graves without tombstones on the Dreitzer farm were those of Jews.

There are no official census figures or community records for the number of Jews who lived in Marseilles. In 1996 there were two Jews still living on a farm in the district.
