Reddersburg (Free State)
Reddersburg is a town in the Free State, south of Bloemfontein. It was founded in 1857 and became a municipality in 1894.
Nathan Sacks and his wife Molly, from Lithuania, were there before 1916.
There is no record of any Jewish social, cultural or religious activity in Reddersburg, other than some Zionist support between 1914 and 1933.
Samuel Sacks, born in Reddersburg in 1916, became an obstetrician and gynaecologist in Durban.
The Reddersburg Hotel was Jewish owned in the late 1920s.
Statistics show that there were 14 Jews living there in 1936 and three Jews in 1951, 1954 and 1957.
