Herzlia Roots Projects

Completed annually by grade eight students at Herzlia Middle School in Cape Town, the Roots project gives learners the opportunity to learn more about their own family history. Learners are encouraged to interview an older member of the family about their lives growing up, whether in South Africa or overseas, thereby actively engaging with their family’s story. A secondary component of the Roots project involves research into a shtetl, exposing these students to an important part of Jewish European life.
